Arnaud Breuillac led Exploration and Production at TotalEnergies through a decade of acquisitions, megaprojects and price collapses. Today he advises the companies, boards and investors who are about to commit capital to upstream assets, and who need to know what they are truly buying.
A reserves estimate is a forecast, not a fact. A partner's track record is a story, told by the partner. A host government's terms hold until they do not. Companies move on oil and gas assets every year with a confident model and an incomplete picture of the geological, operational and political risk they are about to inherit.
Arnaud Breuillac has sat on every side of that table. As an operator in the field, as the buyer in the room, and as the executive who sanctioned more than thirty-six billion dollars of projects across four continents.
He reads the deal the way the seller is hoping you will not.
Arnaud Breuillac joined Total in 1982 and spent four decades in international oil and gas, with operating roles across Abu Dhabi, the North Sea, Indonesia and Angola before leading the group's global upstream business. From 2014 to 2021 he served as President of Exploration and Production at TotalEnergies, running the portfolio through the 2014 price collapse, the rebuild of capital discipline and the LNG build-out.
He remains Senior Advisor to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, and serves as a Non-Executive Director of Woodside Energy, Trident Energy and Géosel-Manosque. Through AB Energy Consulting, founded in Paris in 2022, he advises in an independent capacity.
The transition will be paid for by the cash flow of the assets we already produce. The industry has to be both pragmatic and accountable. Arnaud Breuillac
